As Botox treatments are administered through injection, you may feel a pinching sensation while it is performed. Local anesthetics are also available upon request. Afterward, your face may feel tighter than normal and may show signs of slight bruising and swelling, though this should disappear after 24 hours. Following the injections, temporary redness and mosquito-bite sized swelling is typical for approximately 30 minutes. On rare occasions there may be a tiny bruise. It is important that you avoid touching the treated area for about an hour following your appointment to prevent the injected Botox from spreading/migrating to adjacent tissue.

Unlike undergoing cosmetic surgery, the recovery period for this type of treatment is relatively minimal. After receiving an injection of botulinum toxin, or Botox, you may notice some minimal swelling, bruising, redness, and soreness at the injection site. For most people, these symptoms tend to be mild and resolve within a few minutes or hours after the application. To avoid further bruising, and the toxin from spreading away from desired location, don’t massage or rub the area, and minimize touching your face. It’s recommended to avoid vigorous exercise and smoking for one to two days after the procedure.

Although extremely rare, if you are experiencing more significant symptoms, like severe pain, difficulty breathing or speaking, or unusual swelling, please seek medical help right away.
